Think You’ll Escape COVID by Coming to San Diego? Think Again!

This update is dedicated to all the folks from LA who think they’ll escape COVID-19 by coming to San Diego. I’m not going to offer much commentary today — just tables and charts that hopefully will convince you that none of the counties in southern CA are safe.

Look at the mCharts on LD2 for Encinitas, Carlsbad, SD City, and SD County in Daily New Cases. The line is practically straight up. And cast your eyes on the mCharts for doubling days. These should be going up, not down, but in every case, they’re dropping.

And if you live in one of the 13 cities I cover in SD County, or you’re planning to visit people there, take a gander at the Daily Case mCharts on CD5 and CD6 for those cities. There’s only one that isn’t climbing practically straight up, and that’s Santee. Same story for the zip codes on ZD1.

I just reran Zorgi Scores for the counties, and San Diego is no longer lower than LA County. Why? 3 big reasons: change in daily cases, up 310%; change in case doubling days, down 3%; and change in IUR, up 53%.

You hate the Zorgi Score? No problem. Just look at CD1 and CD2. All the data is right there.

I’ve also included the chart on CA as a whole (ST2), LA County (CVS3), Orange (CVS4), and SD County (CVS7).

If you want to see the nitty gritty details behind the Zorgi Score, this link will take you to the spreadsheet for county data. When it loads, grab the slider at the bottom and go all the way to the end of the sheet. You’ll see the calculations and reasoning there.

Thank you all for your great comments, suggestions, and error corrections. I even appreciate comments from people who totally disagree with me, as long as they’re not just trolling. I especially appreciate offers to buy me a cup of coffee, a burrito, etc. But instead of giving something to me, I’d like you to consider giving to the Equal Justice Initiative.

You can donate here.

I hope everyone has a happy 4th weekend, but please, please wear your mask and keep 6 ft. apart from everyone. If we keep going the way we’re going, another total shutdown is in the works. The would mean economic devastation for a LOT of people.
